Florida has had one of the fastest growing home, condominium, and high rise building markets in the past twenty (20) years.  What  once may have been called swamp land has turned into lush subdivisions and/or condominiums.  Unfortunately, with this extensive growth, unlicensed contractors may be utilized, or untrained supervisors may be utilized. As a result, builders and General Contractors hold themselves open for claims against them for construction defects.

Whether it be new construction or remodeling, you should inquire and consider a performance bond.  A performance bond may better guarantee against costly construction defects.  Many homeowners don't know about this option and most general contractors may not offer a performance bond.

Construction defects can come to the surface in a variety of locations; bathrooms, roofs, chimneys, walls, garages, driveways- you name it. If you have tiles popping out of your bathroom walls, or your kitchen cabinets don't line up, you may be a victim of a construction defect.

TYPICAL CONSTRUCTION DEFECT LOCATIONS:

Roofs

Shower Installations

Fireplaces

Windows

Warped Floors

Poor Drainage

Pools

Cracked Concrete

Electrical Problems

Condominiums and high rise buildings can suffer from poor parapet walls created with incorrect expansions at their base.

Another common area is improper drip edges that allow water to enter a structure and find a way to get through and leak into internal walls.

These are sometimes very difficult to locate and cause water tracking into buildings in unlikely locations.
